SAAF Alouette ||| (#24) piloted by Capt. Van Rensburg is shot down by small arms fire 12km E of Xangongo, Angola. Flight Engineer (Sgt.Celliers) was killed by SWAPO PLAN guerillas after surviving the crash but pilot managed to escape and evade and was picked up ground forces a few days later

A combined Operation Domino involving 32 Battalion, 44 Parachute Brigade and Special Forces was conducted to set up vehicle ambushes on the road between Xangongo and Lubango and destroy stormwater drains on the road from Xangongo to Ongiva.

A SWATF 101 Battalion force in pursuit of SWAPO was ambushed by over 200 Cubans near Chipeque (20 miles southeast of Xangongo). 2 x SADF killed and 11 wounded

SADF forces guarding Cuamato come under attack from a combined FAPLA/Cuban force based at Xangongo, resulting in a fierce skirmish in which 201 Battalion loses some vehicles but holds on to the town (Operation Hilti/Excite)
