Pilot Lazo, Hermenegildo M. (San José de las Lajas, 13-4-52). Died in action when his unit was attacked on 28-8-84, in Luena at about 20h00 (Mortar attack)

• Birth: April 13, 1952, in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, Cuba.
• Family: He was the eldest of six children from a humble family and was known for his cheerful and sociable nature.
• Education and Career: He completed his basic education and then began working at the Valle del Perú Livestock Company as a driver to help support his siblings. He later worked as a mill operator at the “Nelson Fernández Estévez” Rubber Company.
• Political Affiliation: Due to his responsibility and integrity, he was promoted within the Union of Young Communists.
• Military Action and Death: He participated in a Cuban internationalist mission in Angola. He died in action on August 28, 1984, when his unit came under a mortar attack in Luena, Angola, at approximately 8:00 PM.
