The “Wonga Coup” (2004): In March 2004, Du Toit was arrested in Equatorial Guinea alongside several other former 32 Battalion members. He was accused of leading an advance party for a failed coup d’état aimed at overthrowing President Teodoro Obiang.Black Beach Prison: He was tried and sentenced to 34 years in prison. He spent more than five years in Equatorial Guinea’s notorious Black Beach prison, enduring solitary confinement and harsh conditions.Release: In November 2009, Du Toit was granted a presidential pardon and was flown back to South Africa
