UNITA launch raid on Sumbe (Cuanzu Sul) to capture hostages. 200 Cuban civilian internationalists help defend Sumbe, driving off UNITA guerrillas in heavy street fighting. 100 UNITA guerrillas killed; eleven FAPLA-Cubans killed and twenty-three wounded.
